Who we work with...

To be eligible for AGMP support, organisations must meet all the following criteria:

  • Aboriginal community-controlled organisations

typically incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act), the Corporations Act 2001 or the NT Associations Act 2003. We also work with unincorporated Aboriginal groups wanting to set up new organisations.

  • Voluntarily and willingly agree to partner with us.

We prepare an agreement that describes how we will work together, and a plan for what we’ll do and when. The board must be directly involved in negotiating this plan.

  • Have an available contact person to work closely with us.

We need an easily contactable person who can provide information, answer questions, organise meetings and liaise with the board for us.

  • Time away from ‘normal business’ for meetings and workshops.

Building skills and confidence in governance and leadership takes time! We need commitment from everyone to make this happen.

  • Achievable and realistic aspirations for how we can help.

We can’t fix everything! We’ll talk with you honestly about what is possible before we agree to work together.

Before we can agree to work with you, we will also need to check our availability and capacity to provide the required support within a relevant timeframe, and the approval of our Steering Committee to proceed.

AGMP works across the whole of the Northern Territory -

  • an area of 1.42 million square kilometres
  • 72 remote Aboriginal communities and
  • approximately 500 homelands

Here are some of the places we have worked in so far...

“Strong leadership needs to start with directors. We need to be there to represent the whole community. Strong leadership starts with us. A strong board means committed directors that are there at every meeting. If we need to do business then we need to do it seriously.”
