Our objective

Our objective is to provide governance and management support to build the capacity of Aboriginal organisations in the Northern Territory to work effectively and sustainably to:

Deliver services and jobs

Develop enterprises and economies

Build organisational and community capacity

Reduce disadvantage and promote Aboriginal community wellbeing

AGMP empowers Aboriginal people by strengthening the capacity of Aboriginal organisations. We do this using the following approach:

EMPOWERMENT

We strengthen the capacity of Aboriginal boards in order to create empowering and sustainable governance solutions. As an Aboriginal-run program, we work in a culturally appropriate manner and use a strengths-based approach to building skills, knowledge and confidence.
ENGAGEMENT

We develop strong relationships and strategic partnerships - creating networks for local sharing and learning. We develop tailor-made responses to each organisation’s needs and use local knowledge to co-design local solutions.
LEARNING AND ADAPTATION

We are committed to action-learning through reflecting and adapting as we go. We use an evidence-based approach to measure what is needed, if we are on track and whether we have achieved what we set out to do.

The Aboriginal Governance and Management Program (AGMP) is an initiative of APO NT - the Aboriginal Peak Organisations Northern Territory.

We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of country throughout Australia and acknowledges their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to the people, the cultures and the elders past, present and emerging.
