How we work

We work with eligible Aboriginal organisations

to strengthen their governance and management capacity.

Our point of difference

AGMP’s approach is tailored to provide culturally relevant governance and management support specific to a remote community context.

We emerged from grassroots need. Founded in 2014, the program was developed in response to the direct request of Aboriginal leaders for more support for their organisations.

We are independent and do not act as a regulator of Aboriginal organisations. Our engagement is pro-active, positive and voluntary.

Our approach is flexible to meet local needs and aspirations. We work at a pace that work best for each organisation.

We work collaboratively, building respectful partnerships. We build on the strengths and knowledge that already exist within each organisation.

We build Aboriginal ownership and control by strengthening local governance structures and empower people to affect change within their communities.

We use bilingual resources and training materials co-designed with remote community organisations.

We provide referrals and support collaborations with specialists in specific areas.

“Any service always works better when it is community-driven. If our people are involved in the service, in the development of the service then it is going to work a whole lot better than someone from the outside coming in.”
